Terror In The Crypt
Back in the 1980's I used to watch horror movies on the latenight Big Chuck and Little John Show out of Cleveland, OH. One movie, the title of which I could not recall, was a fine little Euro Horror gem that contained a scene that actually gave me a genuine chill up my spine. The scene depicted the mourning of a recently deceased old woman. It was set in a spooky european castle, with a thunderstorm for added effect. In this scene, the wind kicks up and blows out all the candles around the open casket. As a flash of lightning strikes, the dead woman is seen sitting up in the casket and pointing an accusing finger at the person whom she believes had murdered her. Very effective!
I'd forgotten what film that was over the many years since. Recently, as an avid fan of Christopher Lee's work, I acquired a DVD of Terror In The Crypt and was thrilled to find that indeed this is the film with that scene. What a fine film; it has plenty of gothic atmosphere, excellent cinematography (with expert use of light and shadow), an interesting plot, and an attractive cast.
BEWARE OF THE FOMITES.
