Terror In The Crypt

Back in the 1980's I used to watch horror movies on the latenight Big Chuck and Little John Show out of Cleveland, OH. One movie, the title of which I could not recall, was a fine little Euro Horror gem that contained a scene that actually gave me a genuine chill up my spine. The scene depicted the mourning of a recently deceased old woman. It was set in a spooky european castle, with a thunderstorm for added effect. In this scene, the wind kicks up and blows out all the candles around the open casket. As a flash of lightning strikes, the dead woman is seen sitting up in the casket and pointing an accusing finger at the person whom she believes had murdered her. Very effective!

I'd forgotten what film that was over the many years since. Recently, as an avid fan of Christopher Lee's work, I acquired a DVD of Terror In The Crypt and was thrilled to find that indeed this is the film with that scene. What a fine film; it has plenty of gothic atmosphere, excellent cinematography (with expert use of light and shadow), an interesting plot, and an attractive cast.

BEWARE OF THE FOMITES.

Its actually on tonight on a station called RTV (Retro Television). They have a show called Midnight Monster Hop that's like Elvira and Mystery Science Theater 3000. They don't make fun of the movie as its playing, but they have their own mock-commercials and corny, corny jokes. I just sent them a friend request on Myspace.

Yeah during the movie I joked to my brother that this movie must've been made in 1899. And a few decades later they added voice overs.

This is one of my favorite horror films. As someone who recognizes and appreciates good cinematography, this is just one of the aspects that left an impression on me, since I also saw it on late night television when I was very young. So glad to have found it, even though under another name. The women scream like there's no tomorrow. Guess that's true for some of them. Wonderful film!

I'm watching a video about the Big Chuck and Little John Show. I would like to find out the full list of movies they showed. I like those locally-hosted film shows.
