Really? People are watching the wrong movies.

Yeah, I just saw this movie, came here, and was shocked -- they must have deleted all the threads recently.

Yes!!! This is an excellent film - a great slice of life of a Bengali middle class family. Go for the complete version (as opposed to the 90+ minutes offered by Amazon's pay-for-view service). I've got the DVD of this one and am now searching out films by the other Indian cinema 'great', director, Ritwik Ghatak. I've seen one so far, "Nagarik" - also an excellent film.

Just watched it and it was brilliant. Really complelling drama and perfect performances from all involved. The actor who played the boss of the company really made an impression on me especially.

Cinema is the memory of life.

Certainly but it´s probably not their fault but the lack of an adecuate channel for this kind of movies to reach the public. Taking myself as an example, I had never had the chance of watching a Satiajyt Ray movie till´a few weeks ago and it was through the Internet, of course. Now I´ve watched six almost in a row and can´t wait for the next one. Mahanagar is for me possibly Ray´s best after the Apu Trilogy.
