A movie that doesn't know what it is

Starts as a gritty, real depiction of difficult life choices with smatterings of humor to lighten it here and there.

By the second half it's a near-slapstick chick flick.

Loved the first half, resented being pulled into the second.

Anyone else have the same problem with it?

I thought exactly the same thing. The harrowing abortion "clinic" scene sandwiched in between moments of light comedy just seemed...weird. I guess they were trying to lighten up the very dramatic, envelope-pushing (for the time) story with too many scenes that were played for comedy.

Didn't work for me.

"Who's running this airline?!"

The last 20 minutes were definitely typical romantic-comedy nonsense and should have been left out.

The rest of it was excellent.
