Natalie and Steve Have Great Chemistry

Love this movie, Natalie and Steve have such wonderful rapport in their scenes.

Steve McQueen and Robert Redford were her best male costars. JMO

I'f you've ever read a good biography of McQueen you'd find out the rapport wasn't so great in real life between the two stars. The chemistry was very cool.

reply

Then it's a testimony to their acting that they still convey chemistry onscreen.

Care to elaborate why the two stars hated each other off camera?

BTW, was the slap during the abortion scene scripted or unscripted? Wood acted quite surprised by the slap from McQueen.

ITA. Steve was adorable in this movie. I don't know what it is about this guy that I love, he's not handsome in the classical way and he certainly wasn't always professional on the set, but there is something so inherently likeable about Steve McQueen. He is definitely one of my fav actors of the 60s.

yeah they are great. RIP Natalie and Steve

Wood is at her cutest here, and the same for McQueen. Somehow, they just seemed right for each other and I completely bought their romance. They have the same poignant spontaneity, until the very end.
Honestly, I think McQueen was Natalie' s finest co-star -even though Warren Beatty is more popular.

One of the main reasons to love the movie.

Born when she kissed me, died when she left me, lived whilst she loved me

I think they were great together, too! It was stated in Neile McQueen Toffel's book that Natalie was after Steve but out of deference to Robert Wagner who he made "The War Lover" with and knew...and Warren Beatty whom he also knew...he left her alone. I have no idea if that was true; knowing Steve's track record...how could he pass it up?

Please do NOT get me wrong; I LOVE THIS MOVIE and I love him in it! He is cute...he does so much with his facial expressions and the things that he says, "Now wait a minute", "Let me take you for a cup of coffee." I have heard him use "Now wait a minute" in another movie or two so I think that was really Steve McQueen!
