a very modern romance

When it comes to film, I probably favor romances less than other genre, but I am glad I took the time to enjoy this film when it came on TCM. This was a very mature, yet charming film with brilliant performances by the entire cast. I always associated Steve McQueen with action films like The Great Escape, but now I appreciate his talent in a new way. 9/10

Another romance from the 1960's that I enjoyed was The Apartment. Can anyone recommend other romantic films from the this era(late 1950's, early 1960's). I especially like the ones that take place in New York.

An Affair to Remember, Breakfast at Tiffany's

One about a romantic relationship that isn't glamorous but much more realistic, 'two for the seesaw' with Robert Mitchum and Shirley McClaine

Barefoot in the Park is a cute 60's, NY romance, less gritty and raw than The Apartment and Breakfast at Tiffany's which I like (especially The Apartment)

You may also like Desk Set, Charade (set in Paris), Under the Yum Yum Tree, Bell Book and Candle, All That Heaven Allows (pure schmaltz and more 50's), Born Yesterday (set in Washington, DC but William Holden is dreamy, ealy 50's but modern feeling), Cactus Flower, Guys and Dolls (mid 50's but a great NY romantic musical), Bye Bye Birdie..............and the list goes on.........
