Jack's Life

Jack appealed to the baser, short-term, less-compassionate side -- meat, dancing, war paint. Someone on another thread asked how Jack lived with himself after the experience on the island. I don't think Jack had any problems facing himself. In fact, he could have had great success as a nationalistic, right-wing politician.

People like poor Simon would devote their lives to Amnesty International and Greenpeace, get mocked by snotty creeps like Jack, and have their phones tapped by murdochrats.

Sounds like your political naivete has the matter reversed.

Leftwing socialist fools are the ones who gobble up everything today, living on credit and screwing their children and grandchildren into paying for the short-term greed.

Living within your means and planning for a sustainable future is a conservative philosophy -- a concept rather foreigh to liberal scum. No wonder they're confused, and generally scared of their own shadow.

Jack was obviously a liberal. He was rapidly eating up what had to be a small pig population, and would have been eating roots and berries shortly, wondering what went wrong. He had no interest in being rescued, just enjoyed his little power trip, like any liberal bureaucrat. Being ignorant, he couldn't even figure out how to make fire without Piggy's spectacles, and it never occurred to him to exploit the obvious fish and shellfish available from the sea.

Ralph & Piggy were conservative, planning ahead and willing to work for it. Only they were interested in building shelter or signalling for possible rescue.

I actually have respect for Conservatives... it's the rabid right-wingers I fear...

In the real world, Rush Limbaugh would be good buddies with a grown-up Jack (they believe in brute force, in giving obeisance to thugs) and Ralph and Piggy would be mocked by Rush.

I might say the same about you. You are responding to a post that was written more than three years ago.

Don't point fingers. Everyone has their pros and cons.

It's true he was just living for the moment, not thinking about the shortage of food and how to prolong it. He also didn't know how to really start a fire and did not care.
