Sound out of sync in opening credits

One of the cleverest opening credits for a low budget film is marred because somehow the sound was allowed to slip off sync. Prior to the current master source the choir music ended just when that picture dissolved to the next photo(of the racquetball field) and the sound of Big Ben was heard just as it panned into view. Most objectionable is the dramatic drumbeat meant to match the rapid cutting between the racquetball field and the shot of the ground missiles.

This blooper surfaced sometime in the 1990s when a new master print or video tape was created, and evidently all current available versions stem from this source.

It would be nice if this glitch was fixed, as this film really deserves better than to have this sloppy error in sound hampering an other wise excellent restoration.

Does the Criterion release suffer the same error?

Does anyone know where I can find the source of the photographs used in the opening credits?

reply

There were a few bloopers throughout the film.
