I haven't seen this movie...

In ~30 years. Of course IMDb wasn't around then so I was pleasantly surprised to read the TRIVIA section. I didn't realize that for almost all of the boys, this was their only acting job. I also didn't know that the Director let the kids "ad-lib" only using the novel as a guide.

This movie was as good as I remember. It's only received a 7 but I thought it was better that that. I gave it a 9.

I don't have anything earth-shattering to say. I just wanted to share my thoughts with folks that care.

It was an interesting movie. At an allegorical level, the central theme is the conflicting human impulses toward civilisation and social organisation—living by rules, peacefully and in harmony—and toward the will to power. Themes include the tension between groupthink and individuality, between rational and emotional reactions, and between morality and immorality.
