Why is it called 'The Long Ships'?

They don't make an appearance until near the end of the movie. It should have been called "The Golden Bell" - that's what the whole movie is really about.

I guess it could of been called that, but i always thought the film emphasised the importance of the long ships and their skills as sailors. Therefore it's quite a relevant title when looking at it that way.

It's a movie about Vikings. The first scene you see is a long ship being pelted by a storm.

It's also based on a much longer novel titled "The Long Ships,"by a chap named Franz Bengtsson.A deep rich, complex piece of work, and much better,by far, than this piece of tripe

That just about sums it up.

God knows why they called the film the Long Ships; it had bugger all to do with the book.

It's Hollywood

The Vikings had been a big hit only a few years before - which is probably why someone thought to adapt the book in the first place - and the title implies a similarity which would have been good for selling the film, whereas something like "The Golden Bell" wouldn't.

Are you serious? What an inane question.
