Burt Lancaster's 'cameo'

...is not most of his so called cameo really played (uncredited) by British character actress Rita Webb??

reply

I believe you are right. The only cameo was when he took off his mask.

What are you gonna do? Kill me? Every body Dies. John Garfield (Body and Soul)

As a matter of fact I thought that Burt actually appeared in make-up in one of the thre shots (excluding the obvious final one) in which the protester woman was.

I'm here, Mr. Man, I can not tell no lie and I'll be right here 'till the day I die

reply

Please let this be the last of this.....Burt was ONLY in the reveal.

reply

Comparing the woman's height in relation to the sign she's holding, the "Burt Reveal" lady is at least a foot taller than the lady in all the other shots. spope2 is correct.

Someone should ask Kirk or Dana Wynter who are both still living while there is time. Also the young boy played by Tony Huston would surely know. It would be great to confirm this if it was true.

reply

It's pretty obvious. The reveal had that familiar Burt grin looking totally different from the old lady.

There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

One thing i know for a fact. Frank Sinatra's only scene was the one in which he removed the makeup. He was paid $75,000 for doing that. (I would have done it for fifty.)

I feel sure that the hunting protester was too tall to have been played by Rita Webb. I knew it was someone in drag but I wasn't too sure who was going to poke their head out of her clothing in the end.
