That's all I remembered from seeing this as a kid. Not the title, not the nuns, not the chapel, not Sidney Poitier being black...

Actually, any sweet drink will help settle an upset stomach ...or so I've read.

Just getting back to the "quotes" theme--I haven't seen the film in a while, but there was a moment in the book when Mother Maria, while watching Homer at work, asks him, "Schmidt, we can do it?" It made this rather formidable and crotchety woman seem a bit more likeable and human.
share"I ain't building no Sha-pel!"
shareThe quote I liked best was Mother Mary ringing the the bell for mealtime (actually I think it was a metal rim from an automobile wheel) and the exhausted Poitier falls against the wall saying "Mama calling her slave..."
(or something very close to that...its been a while since I've see it)
I remember laughing hard at his sarcasm.
“To accept injustice is cowardice.” ---Gandhi
At the end of the movie....
When Homer gives his last English lesson to the sisters...something along the lines of...
"Homer: I build the Shappel!
You build the Shappel!
We build the Shappel!
The mother: He build the Shappel!"
And with the "Amen" song to top it off made a perfectly happy ending!
5 Stars for this movie.
Juan says he's come to see the " One Man Cathedral" lol
