Notes and Letters

I just saw this movie on TCM, and I have to say I was slightly disappointed. Mildly depressing, and I thought the love interest angle was tedious (mostly due to the fact that I thought Toby was annoying). Anyway, what was especially annoying was the fact that either I didn't have time due to a fast cutaway, or the script was so garbled, that I couldn't make out most of the notes and letters in the movie. I think there were two, but especially the note at the end I couldn't read clearly, and it cut away too fast for me to catch. Can anyone who has seen the movie or has a copy of it please tell me what the notes said?

I just finished watching my TCM taped copy as well and couldn't make out the letter Leslie leaves Tom on his typewriter at the end. Please help someone. I think it said something about the ending of his story, but not sure cause it was hard to read the cursive writing. I am a big fan of the British Kitchen Sink genre, so it was cool to finally see all of this film.

I rewound it so I could make it out. It said that she liked the story but that it needed an "ending". In other words, she wanted him back.

Thanks "Swedish Girl". I do appreciate it. I kind of figured it had something to do with the story needing an ending, but wasn't sure, so thanks a bunch.

Thanks also as I couldn't read the letters.

I agree that the love story in the story isn't really strong enough to dominate the film (and it is fairly long) but it was fairly interesting still, mostly when Caron interacted with the neighbors.

"Darling Toby,
It's a lovely story
but it hasn't got an ending.
It would be marvellous
with an ending.
