What is the significance of an 'L-Shaped Room'?

I've noticed that an "L-Shaped Room" seems to be a significant feature in homes for sale (in the UK, at least).
Why is this?
What is the importance or significance?

I am wondering as well! :)

K999!

I think you've GOT IT! I really love this idea...you are young, can't afford much but you've got this ONE room that can be used in a variety of ways and it never gets as boring as 4 walls can be. I would imagine that it could be fun, especially living in London...

Thanks for that!

did it not have to do with her being up top? it was shaped that way - i guess they made an odd room because of the roof? Toby's room is not odd like that, right?

didn't someone visit her and say you got the 'something' room, meaning only her's was that way?

Yes, there was a lot of conversions to apts after WWII. They would make nice rooms with or without baths and there was always this space left over that had been chopped up, her's was it.
I can't believe this is not available on DVD, it's such a wonderful example of the new wave that came through London in the early 60's, i.e. The Servant and all the Rita Tushingham films like Leather Boys, Taste of Honey, The Knack...
Isn't Cicely Courtneidge a love? I think I watch this this movie just for her. I thought I had seen it years ago and they showed her and another woman in the photo together. I can't believe they would edit it now, it would have been more daring then. She was knighted before she died, that must have been such a thrill for her.
