Not crazy about this movie.

I'm watching this for the 1st time and am about 3/4th of the way through. I keep waiting for something to happen. Some twist in the plot. Something I don't expect. But so far, it's a predictable sad movie about an unmarried preggers woman. I like character studies, and I like Leslie Caron, but somehow this movie misses for me. It's boring.

Maybe there's a shocker ending, but I doubt it.

Still, it's a quaint slice of real life, if someone is in the mood to see that. It starts from nowhere and goes nowhere. In between, there's not much. Just a little slice of real life, much as your life, my life, your neighbor's life. Nothing spectacular. Nothing exciting.

What's that quote from a book, "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation"? That's what this movie seems to show.

But maybe there's a twist at the end, and something will happen. But I expect not. Real life isn't that way.

Well, that's actually the point. It's meant to be a little look into someone's life. She starts out all alone in the world, and ends it knowing she'll be okay, because there will always be people that love her. Also, just like real life you always hope for a surprise ending, something to fix whatever it is you're going through, but real life isn't always that easy. As for saying nothing happened, that's not true at all. Jane started out as a girl, and came out a confident, proud woman!
