Looks like it was made in the mid-Seventies!

This film has the look and feel of a film that was made around the mid-Seventies! The acting, cinematography and color have a very Seventies look about them. I was surprised, while watching this film, that it was made approximately 10 years before it looked like it was made. Has anybody else noticed a Seventies look and feel about this film, too?

Yes...I was thinking the same thing, It's hard to believe it's from 1963, alot of their films have a 70's look...I think it's the color, I actually think some of their films would have been better in black and white,IMO. The Hammer sets also remind me of the Star Trek studio sets from the late 60's.

I disagree, perhaps you saw the recent release on DVD which is cleaned up. The versions of Hammer films seen on TV are usually faded. This look is similar to other color Hammer films of the time. They didn't change much over the years. In fact, their 70s films looked dated even at the time of release.

Not sure about a "seventies" look or feel, but watching it again I'm impressed anew at how Hammer handled their limited budgets - this film has an unusually lush look, especially the sets and costumes.

I saw the movie last night for the very first time, and even though I had little expectations about it, I ended up loving it! You are right: it looks ahead of its time, and it's so well made, it has the right pace and never bores. The acting, the setting, the music and everything else are just terrific, and I liked especially the leading lady, who kinda reminded me of a young and very beautiful Gloria Stuart.

I was watching it "again" on DVD today, and the leading lady reminded me of Julie Andrews from the Mary Poppins movie. Of course this movie came out a few years before KOTV but she seemed so like Julie in her voice and look.

I really like this movie, although the ending is a bit over the top having evil killing evil (evil bats killing vampires). That's why Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee (can't remember which?) passed on starring in this movie because he didn't agree with the ending.

PLUS the copious amount of nearly naked babes being attacked by some very naughty bats at the end :) Surprising for its time ...

I agree. I guessed this movie was made around 1970 or 1971 but then saw it was released in 1963 and was slightly surprised. Wonderful movie as almost all Hammer horror films are.
