Piano Concerto Macabre

For me, the music is one of the best things about this movie. It's, as one film music historian observed about other film scores, "post-Rachmaninoff shmaltz".

It's especially, uh, effective during Barry Warren's, as Karl Ravena, over-the-top recital. (This character is mercilessly parodied in Roman Polanski's Dance of the Vampires.)

As derivative shmaltz goes, this is one of the best.

A version of the theme, called "Vampire Rhapsody," was recorded by composer James Bernard on a CD called "The Devil Rides Out," that compiled stuff from some of his Hammer scores. Worth looking for.

Wow! Thanks! I'm going to add it to my "want list". It sounds like something Amazon might have.

The piece was also known (by James Bernard) as THE TOOTH CONCERTO

The piano music is a highlight of this film. It's interesting to see what people did many years ago for evening entertainment. I find it interesting how people sat and stood around a piano while someone played. Today we turn on the television or surf the internet when we want an evening of simplistic entertainment at home.

YES, YES, YES!!
It was outstanding and I wanted it to go on longer than it did...just enchanting!

One of the highlights of the film. I didn't want it to end either. If I'd been there sat in Jennifer Daniel's place my husband wouldn't have had a cat in hell's chance of dragging me away from Barry Warren and that piano. I think it's a very erotic scene and the reaction of Carl's sister Sabrina to the music is also very interesting. The moment when Carl pauses playing and looks up suddenly just takes my breath away, Barry Warren has a tendency to do that to me whenever I watch him!

"You're going out there to destroy them, right? Not to study. Not to bring back."
