Movie: Johnny Cool

The 1963 Movie Johnny Cool is a superb Rat Pack vehicle
with a steller cast led by Elizabeth Montgomery, i just love
watching this movie over & over again, i always seen something new
that i missed in the previous viewings, i plugged my DVD in yesterday, watched it & noticed for the first time an audio dub Liz did at the airport over the loud speaker.
I never get tired of watching it.

Anyone looking for it on DVD let me know at:

I don't know: A Rat Pack movie with neither Sinatra nor Dean Martin? Granted though, it did have Sammy Davis, Jr. and Joey Bishop... and if you look real close you can see Peter Lawford's name on one of the marquees in Las Vegas.

Badgers? We don't need no stinkin' badgers! But if you could show us something in a nice possum...

Why did all the cars in the used car lot already have plates attached? Not worth mentioning and yet I do.

reply

Cars in California kept their plates when they were sold (and still do today).

reply

While it was a used car lot some or all of the cars were available to rent hence the need to have license plates attached. Elizabeth Montgomery's character revealed to Henry Silva's character that she had to use her own driver's license in order to rent the car.

Henry Silva was part of The Rat Pack, too. See 'Oceans Eleven'. 'Stakeout on Cherry Street'.

Really?? Excuse my skepticism, but then again, it's nice to think that there's still a living member of the Rat Pack out there.

What is the legal definition of a Rat Packer, anyway?

I saw yesterday that Henry Silva was in the remake of 'Ocean's Eleven' which I have never seen because I love the original too much. Including him was a cool thing to do.

At first I thought he was the heart attack guy that they hid the money in, but that's Bergdorf (R. Conte).

So now, I don't know who Corneal (Silva) was, or his role in the heist.

Can you help me, ( for just the price of a cup of coffee )?

And if you look real close you can see Pater Lawford's name as the movie's producer.

Johnny Cool is not a forgotten masterpiece, but it is a memorable film that was edgy and ahead of its time. And what makes this film particularly noteworthy, is all the violence. Especially given the fact that the "hero" of the film turned out to be the most vicious character who performed most, if not all of the killings seen in the film.

On a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if this influenced some notable directors. For instance, the sequence in Sicily reminded of the Vito scene in the beginning of Godfather part 2.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

Silva also appears in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE as the Chinese(?) Korean(?) houseboy who attacks Sinatra.

Good catch! That was definitely Elizabeth Montgomery's voice and, thanks to your post, I looked very closely at that brief scene as I'm watching the movie on the Works right now. However, I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't her made up to look different. Pretty cool!
