Watching the movie right now

It's on in the Chicago area now, which, of course, reminds me of Ray Harryhausen. The world is a little less bright without him in it.

It's about to start here in Australia on TMC.
One of my favourites as a young girl ...had a huge crush on Jason !
This movie was way ahead of it's time then.Still love it after all these years.

I watched it too on DVD. I still love this movie. It still has my attention after all these years.

No! It was not "ahead of its time"! Why do people continually claim that about movies and even actors/actresses?! This was OF its time; the moment was right for Ray Harryhausen to "step up to the bat" with his version of the "sword & sandal" epics that had been highly popular since the Fifties. This and other period films Harryhausen worked on are continuations of the tradition.

So, how on Earth is this AHEAD of its time?! Look how they butchered "Clash of the Titans" then had the audacity to continue onto a sequel! Look what they do with any CGI-saturated films.

Don't take away our Sixties accomplishment! Say instead that he continued the groundbreaking work started by Willis O'Brien.

It's on TCM right now - haven't seen it since I was a kid, still holds up (Hydra fight is starting, gotta go)

If you watch the extras, R Harryhausen says he thinks the old style stop motion models are scarier or nightmarish than computer generated stuff and I agree. This movie may be low tech by today's standards but does have right mix of monsters and fantasy portrayed well and maybe better than newer graphics could do. This movie is a masterpiece of it's time!

This movie is probably one of the best movies I've seen and it's getting better for every year. The scenery/environment combined with the musical score is absolutely fantastic. My favorite scene when Jason meets Hermes. https://youtu.be/XnxlF3Y2h4k

His films, Star Trek and a few others kept me going through the 70s.

I wish I could have met him.
