TALOS!! THE BRONZE GIANT

I remember 1st seeing this amazing special effect when I was a kid 30 years ago, and just absolutely being mezmorized by the realism and haunting creaking sound of the grinding metal. To this day still the coolest special effect ever seen on film! The master Harryhausen, with all the computer technology 40 years later, they cant even come close to his genius!!!

I absolutely agree. Talos scared the hell out of me as a kid (and still does now, LOL!!!) There's something about the way he's crouched on his stand, and then when his head moves....man, CGI just can't do that. You need physicality to create that kind of effect. There's something about a large inanimate object coming to life - a statue - that I think really captures the imagination and is inherently scary. It's probably my favorite Harryhausen creation, along with his little monsters (like the homunculous of The Golden Voyage of Sinbad). His small monsters have such an almost sweet quality, like you find in a small, baby animal. They touch my heart especially when people mistreat them. And he was so great with death scenes - you always felt something for the monster!

In his field, Harryhausen was a giant, as big as Talos!

I totally agree with the majority of posts here re Talos.

I was 12 and my brother was 10 in 1963 when we saw this in the cinema. Scared the cr*p out of us then, and was eagerly waited for in all subsequent viewings, even on the small screen.

For me, it is one of the longest-enduring memories of truly frightening MONSTERS I have ever seen. And I have seen some doozies!

Talos ROCKS!!!

Those hollow dead eyes! Stop motion will always be creepier than cgi.

Yes I would guess that all the (mostly) guys who saw this movie as a child think exactly the same as you do. It was the size, the way it moved and especially the sound that absolutely stunned me when I watched the film first about 30 years ago. I never saw this movie on the big screen, I bet it was incredible!

Not only were the visual and sound effects great, but Bernard Herrmann's musical score was absolutely epic!

The Talos scene started my love for Ray Harryhausen films and for special effects and fantasy films. Its been 30 years since I first saw this movie and I still watch it today in anticipation of their adventure on the isle of Bronze and encounter with Talos. Its one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. I'm sure I've watched Jason and the Argonauts at least 100 times through the years.
