Stanley Kramer sent a blank check for Laurel to fill in for a cameo but Stan Laurel turned the chance down to be in this all star comedy

Stan Laurel refused to do anymore acting after Ollie Hardy died. He was a man of his word.

The version that I read is that - rather sweetly - he declined because he didn't want his by now elderly appearance to disappoint his young fans...

I didn't know he was so self conscious. Plus, just looking at those home movies from the 1960s, he doesn't look THAT old. Those classic facial expressions still look as pristine and youthful as they did back in the day.

I agree. I would wash my hands of this movie. I would rather be deaf and blind than watch it!
