Russell got $5 for the kick!

In the film, Mike Edwards (Elvis presley) paid the young Kurt Russell a quarter to kick him on the shin, right? When they were shooting the actual scene, apparently little Kurt Russell refused to really kick Presley. Finally, Presley paid the kid $5 to kick him and as we all saw, the latter did a pretty good job. I bet he enjoyed spending the $5 (not a bad sum for a kid in 1962) afterwards, enjoying the fairground attractions!

On a side note, $US5 in 1963 money is $US35.29 in 2009 money.

Not bad...probably could have bought a lot of chocolate bars with that!

Much closer to 60 dollars than 35 actually. Ave. new home price in 62 was 10-12K. Now around 225-250K. My Parents bought their first house in 1966(my birth year), for around 12k(with 1500 down they received as a wedding present in 1962 from my dad's parents). MY dad actually thought that 3500 dollar wedding present would buy a house in 1995(when I got married). The average price at that time in LA was 300k!! And only because the Northridge earthquake brought prices way down the year before. My dad never left the depression, WW11 era life(money wise) that he grew up in!! The equivalent amount in 1995 would have been 40-45K. When I told my father that, he thought I was out of my mind! We used the 3500 dollars to pay for a portion of our wedding and reception, because my in-laws didn't have the money at all to help us out. We are the oldest, and my my wife had 3 siblings in college and Catholic school at the time.!! Been behind the 8 ball ever since.

The biggest irony of course is Russell would go on to play Elvis later in a pretty good late 70s tv movie.
