my family and I were in this movie!!

Well, sort of; we were in the crowd scene in the end, and I was just a baby, My Uncle was part of the security and was in the elevator with Elvis when they went up to the top of the space needle. my sisters memories of Elvis were that he was shorter than she imagined him and had really greasy hair;)
I think this is a cute movie,I like the part where kurt Russell kicks him in the shins, and there is a scene of Elvis and the little girl running away from some security guards where they obviously speeded up the film, it cracks me up every time I see it. Another reason I like this movie is that it is in my Home State (I believe one of the first Movies set in this State. ) It isn't the greatest movie but it captures a moment in our families life, the Worlds Fair and Elvis, all good stuff in my opinion. :)

Thanks for sharing that. The personal insights on these boards is one of my favorite aspects.

I'm guessing the women's hair was practically glued in place with hairspray. Not the era for running one's fingers through the fashionable opposite sex's hair! :)

Everyone's hair was shellacked in place with Aquanet being the usual tool. I have got to catch up to this movie. I was at this World's Fair in mid-July as a 9-year-old.A lot of the buildings are still in place as a cultural center when I was up there for the King Tut exhibit in 1978. I still have my Heinz pickle pin from the fair.

I just watched the ending on TCM since it would have been Elvis' 79th birthday today.

What truly wonderful memories to cherish! I saw Elvis at the Vegas Hilton when he could hardly kick, but I still loved watching him perform.

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

I enjoying watching the people in the background as much as the stars (nothing against them!).
So fun to relive that era...a real time capsule!
(Have always thought those who showed up at the fair during the shooting of this film must of thought they were very lucky!).

You are lucky to have a lot of the building left from that fair. I live in Queens, NY, the home of TWO World's Fairs, and some of the structures have not been taken care of and left to deteriorate. The park is beautiful, and the Unisphere is still in tip-top shape, but the New York Pavilion is left to rot. It could really mean more tourism if they were to renovate it back to its glory. I believe it is because it is "working class Queens" instead of Central Park in Manhattan. Shame.

Another great thread soon to be lost to corporate foolishness.
