Approved by Shirley Jackson

Jackson was appalled by Hollywood's treatment of "The Bird's Nest" AKA LIZZIE, but she actually liked what Wise did with her immortal novelette THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE.

I always hated that awful music playing in the apartment in the beginning: Calliope-like and annoying (purposely so, of course).

In a very difficult role, the ever so talented Julie Harris was perfect choice for the Schizoid child-woman known as Eleanor.

Would have liked Theo to have had a little more "Rhoda Morgenstern" in her (as she was in the book) but Bloom does a good job.

Dr. Montague turns into Dr. Markway. Played by the impossibly handsome Richard Johnson; a nice change from the man in the book

Luke was a fine role for Russ Tamblyn and he was right for the flippant ne're-do-well heir.

As a kid, I read the book over and over as it fascinated me to no end.

A great adaptation of a classic ghost story!

I haven't read the book in years, but I remember liking it. The movie is very good, though.

Death lives in the Vault of Horror!

One of a few good examples, where both the book and the movie are good.

Stephen King said the book was one of the best horror novels of the 20th century. The movie is good, though the book is more spooky.
