Anthology Horror Movies Are Extinct

But........most of this type are good to outstanding. You must see this movie!

reply

I wouldn't have thought this to be an anthology film as it has one plot and story from start to finish. But I agree that back in the same era it was released that there were several horror anthology movies.

Oh Lord, you gave them eyes but they cannot see...

reply

I wouldn't say extinct. More like dormant or suppressed.

Standing there, on a road that leads to anywhere ...

reply

Um, where have you been...? 'THE ABC'S OF DEATH' was just released and it has a record 27 directors with 26 different segments!!!

I have over 4000 films, many of them very rare and OOP. I LOVE to trade. PLEASE ASK!

reply

I'd like to see 'The ABC's of Death.' to see how having 26 segments works. It sounds as though it wouldn't give the different directors much time for any scope. I would like to see the return of anthology movies as well as the more traditional gothic setting like 'The Haunted Palace' has.

reply

Yes, I fully agree with you; that's probably why I haven't watched it yet... It seems like none of the directors would have time enough to develop anything. Besides, the reviews were pretty mixed with some great, most so-so, and some lousy segments...

I too prefer the strong Gothic atmosphere; it's the best!

I think 'The Monster Club' (1981) is one of the last acceptable horror anthology films I can think of and of course it had Vincent Price in it. Although Gothic settings might not always possible I think R. Chetwynd Hayes is the type of writer who can supply good short horror stories. His stories featured in a few of the earlier horror anthologies as well I believe.

reply

You didn't like 'CREEPSHOW'...? I THINK it came out after that one. It wasn't Gothic per se, but it was a good anthology I think.

Thank you for the recommendation of 'Creepshow.' I've checked it out on imdb and it does look like one I would like to add to my collection. Another user has recommended an anthology called 'Grave Tales' (2011). Brian Murphy is supposed to be very good in that as a creepy grave digger. I can't wait to see that one.

reply

Yes, that does look good, although it looks like it may be hard to find. But, good old school anthology Horror. Appreciate the recommendation!

Cheers!

A user told me that 'Grave Tales' is available from Hemlock Books. I've checked their website. But I'll try to obtain it locally first.

reply

If you get it, please let me know how you liked it.

OH... I just remembered another newer anthology!

It's called 'GRIMM FARIE TALES'; I've not seen it yet, but I know it's an anthology and the reviews are decent. I think I have it on VHS somewhere...

That 'Grim Prairie Tales' looks promising and so unusual I would think. I notice most of the message board comments seems fairly favourable on that one. I will keep you posted on 'Grave Tales.'

From a Whisper to a Scream aka The Offspring (1987) is a decent anthology with Vincent Price also.

reply

'Three Extremes', Excellent anthology with some excellent directors.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that one (and it's sequel) I think I have it (I have SO many bloody films that I haven't seen yet ) but I think the reviews were pretty good. If I'm not mistaken, I think the reviews were even a little stronger for the sequel, but I'll hafta go back and check...
