'Strategic Air Command' Similar

The movie "Strategic Air Command" (1957) gave a similar portrayal of SAC during the cold war. It is much more romanticized a la Hollywood, with gorgeous aerial photography of B-36 bombers overlaid with Victor Young's lush 'flight music'. Jimmy Stewart (an actual bomber wing commander in WW II and a Brigadier General in the USAF reserve later, in his 50s when the picture was made) plays a pro baseball player recalled to duty by SAC in the post-Korean-War era.

"Eagles" is a much grittier, probably more realistic depiction of SAC in the cold war era, but "SAC" is well worth catching when it shows up on cable/satellite (it hasn't been released on DVD).

"SAC" so captured me as a High School student, that I saw it 6 or 7 times when it played in our local theater, and I subsequently applied for and won an
appointment to the Air Force Academy. I flunked the flight physical, so went on to do other things. I've often wondered how different my life would have been if the minor physical anomaly hadn't disqualified me!

I managed to dub a great copy of this movie a few years ago off our satellite service and watch it every couple of years or so.

If I remember correctly, AGOE was listed in the cover as the SAC of the time. It was I guess an updated SAC...
