Actors' voices.

How much richer, not to mention sexier, would this film have been if both Lee and Lavi had used their wonderfully attractive and distinct voices rather than having been dubbed? You could probably listen to the both of them talk to each other for hours! And using their actual voices during those whipping scenes, WOW!

Apparently it was policy in Italian films of the era that all voices would get dubbed, even if the actor spoke English. That also happened to Barbara Steele in Black Sunday, and the voice actress is not as good as Steele. It's a shame. Dubbing just sucks.

Yeah, I'm aware of the unfortunate policy of dubbing with Italian films, especially horror films, of the time. But it's particularly a shame in the case of 'The Whip and The Body' when you have two actors like Lavi and Lee who possessed such remarkable and wonderfully attractive voices and what it would've added, immensely, to a film like this.

There was some kind of conflict (don't remember what) between Lee and the producers, so that's why he didn't dub his own voice.

It is a shame about not hearing the two leads own voices on the film. The dubbed voice for Christopher Lee isn't too bad. Just a slight hint of an American accent in it I thought. But quite a good imitation of Christopher Lee.

I believe that all the original sounds on Italian films were scrapped. They had a method of recording the dialogue and other sounds after the cast had left. Then the whole lot was completely dubbed. I believe Christopher Lee put a stop to his voice been dubbed onto his Italian films some time later. I think he insisted on his own voice being on the recording track on later movies made there.

yeah same thing with movies starring terence hill and sophia loren from around these times, i get why they dubb hill's movie buddy bud spencer though since his english sound a bit rough as evident in the 1986 cannon production movie "aladdin", thanks for this info, if i had known this earlier i wouldn't have rented it, i was about to rent a boris karloff horror from this era but found out before it was the same case with that, to be honest this looked cheap, i expected more quality since christopher lee was quite the big name in the 1960s, here he's not even credited first, i'm disappointed it wasn't british or american. the voices are clearly dubbed. what really got to me is that they dubbed lee, he has a great voice and i'm so used to it i couldn't get into the groove. the one playing his daddy didn't look old enough to play that part, they looked too close in age. i was hoping this weren't a part of the story, but can you believe this big strong guy (lee) whipping the woman like that. disgusting. not a lot of dialogue, mostly visual, reminds a bit of roger corman's "the terror" (1963). one of the other players look like peter lorre. i lost interest in this as soon as i found out it was dubbed.
