Why were there two hotels in Paris at the beginning?

In the scene where Alain and Lydia are in a taxi taking him back to the clinic in Versailles, he tells the taxi driver, "Take Madame back to Paris to the Hotel ______, rue _____." If she already had a hotel room, why then were they staying at the other rather seedy hotel where the opening scenes take place?

She came to visit him in Versailles. It seems he was not supposed to go far on his first night out of the clinic, and it would have been easier to get a local hotel rather than travel into Paris.
