Well, I think the fact that all the characters of tenembaums family are incapable of leading a full and fullfilling life, haunted by the past glory of their childhood, keeping on floating hardly with life it's pretty pertinent to the theme of feue follette. Not only most characteres are from the lost generation, but also features alain leroy, who's struggling trying to enter the adult age but not making it at last. Also deep depression and unhappines are main themes in both films, one is more bright the other darker, but then again, ff it's a mere inspiration and I can really see it like it is.
