George S Scott was simply Amazing

I wonder why he didn't receive any nominations for best actor in a supporting role. His character Major Turgidson was the single most entertaining and amazing character of the film. It really carried the whole War room scenes.

Though he went on to win and reject the Academy award for best actor for Patton, I believe that his acting is one of the least talked about and most underrated performances.

I completely agree!! Peter Sellers had more funny lines, but George C. Scott had more facial reactions and gestures that were hilarious. Even the intense and nervous filled gum chewing was a scream. He nailed it in this role!

Scott was reportedly not initially fond of the fact that Kubrick urged him to deliver his lines in a way that cranked-up Turgidson's behavior in the most extreme, emotional way and then used the take with the most outrageous and extreme delivery of his lines in the movie. At the time, Scott thought the character should behave more realistically, but Kubrick wanted him to go for the most comical, outrageous performance he could deliver.

OP: True. He and Sterling Hayden made the film worth watching.

Absolutely agree. Nowadays, there's hardly a shot where he's on screen that I'm not smiling or laughing. So many hilarious moments, and expressions.
That scene where his girlfriend calls while he's in the war room...I'm laughing right now just thinking about it. Hell of a funny movie.
