sexiest Wayne movie?

Is "Donovan's Reef" the sexiest film featuring John Wayne?

First, we get to see him bare-legged in shorts - I can't recall such a sight in his other films. Not that I'm interested in bare-legged men, though I recall a very long time ago seeing a magazine photo of him booking into a hotel in shorts and a colleague leaning over my shoulder and remarking what nice legs he had.

More to my taste were Ameilia's legs, and there were a couple of scenes when she was showing rather more of them than she liked. There was the strange scene when she strips off her cumbersome Victorian swimsuit to reveal that she had another bathing costume underneath, which she filled out quite nicely. And of course there was the spanking scene (though didn't Wayne spank Maureen O'Hara in another film, and there was a spanking scene in "True Grit", where Wayne was a disapproving spectator).

Then there was the light-hearted attitude the film showed to three children being born out of wedlock.

On the other hand, the native girls in the film were dressed rather more decorously than they would have been in real life.

Overall, the best thing about the film was the scenery.

Additionally, he spanks the girl with his bare hand, where as in McClintock he used a small hand shovel.

I first saw this film when I was around 10 and thoroughly disliked Wayne's relationship with Elizabeth Allen for reasons I couldn't fully express other than "he's too bossy with her", but because I was enchanted with the idea of living on what I considered to be a paradise island, I quite liked the film. I also thought the other characters were funny.

Fast forward 10 years and I still really disliked the central relationship because John Wayne seemed so old to me, so I couldn't root for him being with a young woman.

I then watched it when I was approximately the age of the 34 year old Elizabeth and just thought "eww!" Some 56 year olds could pull it off, but not Wayne. And even if it had been George Clooney, 56 is still 56.

Fast forward to today, and I am now 7 years younger than Wayne was here and I STILL dislike the idea of him being with a woman 22 years his junior.

But maybe if I come back and watch it when I'm 80 I'll finally find their relationship -and John Wayne- attractive.

Tina Fey & Amy Poehler expressed it far more wittily:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJEAGd1bQuc&list=PLAbu_fSLNLwwaR0WtC7mQTMKyLCJ5mA4D&index=60

Well in all fairness, John Wayne asked John Ford to hire Maureen O'Hara instead because he was very uncomfortable being much older than Elizabeth Allen but Ford said no. So he really didn't have much of a choice. Same thing with the movie "Rio Bravo", cause again he was much older than Angie Dickinson. John Wayne wasn't comfortable with the kissing scenes because of the age difference. So for the record, it wasn't up to John Wayne.
