Love Actually Connection?

Did nobody else pick up a thematic parallel here? I feel the Liam Neeson plot, while not identical (Liam was a step dad, I know), does borrow a lot from "The Courtship of Eddie's Father." It's a father and son grieving together, bonding over talking about getting out in the dating pool again, and contains a scene of them both sitting down and having the adorable son (Ron Howard v Thomas Brodie-Sangster) talk to his dad about falling in love with such conviction and maturity.

It warmed my heart in the same way, and I find it odd that I can't find another source in which someone points this out... I had to put this to the MRDB crowd.
