'Come Fly With Me' to Air on TCM March 15th!

As with last year, Turner Classic Movies is airing "Come Fly With Me" again this year, 2012. The air date is Thursday, March 15th, at 6:15 AM Eastern Daylight Time. This will be part of their month-long tribute to Karl Malden. Reverend Mother Dolores Hart made her final film appearance in this movie before she entered the Regina Laudis Monastery in 1963, and gave up all things Hollywood. When Karl Malden was named President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1990, he requested that his former co-star, Reverend Mother Dolores Hart, be reinstated as a member of the Academy, to get a different view of the films that are nominated each year for the Best Picture award. Then Abbess, Mother Benedict Duss, gave her permission for Reverend Mother Dolores to reinstate her membership. Just this year, a documentary on Reverend Mother Dolores' life at the Abbey, "God is the Bigger Elvis," was nominated as Best Documentary Short Subject, and she actually attended the 84th Annual Academy Awards ceremony! So, you could say that Dolores Hart came full circle.

This movie awakened some very special memories for me as I was employed with Pan Am and working out of "IDLEWILD" airport at the time this movie was being made. It was purely by accident that I came across the airing of the movie on TCM in March and have been searching ever since to find a copy either in video or dvd format. It was hard to believe that in my search I discovered that the US never released a copy of this movie! When contacting the Turner Classic Movie library, I was told they don't even have a copy for sale. How unbelievable! With this being Dolores Hart's last movie which ended her acting career, it is very disappointing not to be able to add this movie to my collection. It was a real pleasure to watch it on Turner Classic Movies, especially in widescreen format, for their three week showing. They have always been my favorite channel for all the older and classical movies. Thanks TCM for airing this movie! Hope you will do it again in the future.

This was the first Dolores Hart film I ever saw, and for all the ridiculous fluff that it is, I love watching it again and again and again - mostly because of Dolores. :)

I wonder what the Pope(s) thought about this.

"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
