Showed how powerful Pan Am was before Lockerbie bombing.

Pan Am ruled international travel until the Lockerbie Scotland bombing. That singular act of terrorism killed the airline. Even though it was portrayed a Polar Air in the movie, they showed Pan Am planes.

Pan Am was already in financial difficulties before the Lockerbie event. Lockerbie probably killed it off for good, but more than anything Pan Am was a victim of deregulation and competition.
