Where is Cleopatra buried/entombed? Where was Marc Antony laid to rest?

I'd like to hope they were together, but I doubt Octavian would indulge that.

They don't know where Cleopatra is buried. I recently saw a documentary that made the case for a site west of Alexandria, but even then it was conclusive. From Wikipedia:

The long-lost Tomb of Antony and Cleopatra, the burial crypt of Mark Antony and Cleopatra (VII), from 30 BC, remains unknown somewhere near Alexandria, Egypt. According to historians Suetonius and Plutarch, the Roman leader Octavian (later renamed Augustus) permitted their burial together after he had defeated them.[1] Their surviving children were taken back to Rome, to be raised as Roman citizens.

You mean inconclusive, no?

Plutarch made it absolutely clear that Cleopatra's tomb was within Alexandria, and the logic of the narrative certainly requires it. I'm not really sure why Taposiris Magna should have any particular claim to be the real burial place...

Wasn't there a Cleopatra whose mummified remains were transported to Europe and, accidentally identified as garbage, got dumped into the sewers?

reply

They were, in fact, buried together, Octavian allowed it.

reply

Thank you. That was very nice of him, all things considered!

reply

yes, apparently he did it to not antagonize the local population.

reply

I wouldn't have given him so much credit for doing a politic thing like that. Very good.
