Receives Best Visual Effects instead of THE BIRDS

It's only because it was a big budget elaborate film with Liz Taylor, It was even nominated for Best Picture--for the same reason.

did it really win over the birds? didn't know that. I don't know what visual effects it had, everything was real.

reply

I can see art direction (which it probably won too), but they could at least had given The Birds this one Win.

reply

the birds is a masterpiece and certainly deserved an oscar for visual effects.

reply

Academy doesn't like Hitch for some reason.

The film has many matte paintings of the grand buildings and other grand settings. These are very well done.

reply

Nothing was matte in this film, it was all built and what you see was real, hence why it is the most expensive film ever made.

reply

If you thought there were no matte paintings in "Cleopatra", then you must not have a good eye for spotting them.

This should help.
