I kept staring at the actor who played Gena Rowlands' husband as I watched this for the first time since the 60s. At first I was thinking how much he looked like her real husband (and director of the movie) John Cassavettes - because he seemed so familiar. Stared and stared and then realized it was the guy who plays Adam Schiff, the da, on Law & Order series... but oh so much younger. (like we all were) Very good-looking and fit into the film so well.

It's a great movie and Judy Garland always breaks my heart when I see her in anything.

that's right-it's Steven Hill,who was the older prosecutor on Law & Order.he was also Dan Briggs,the IMF agent on the first season of Mission Impossible.

Before he was an architect or a DA, he showed up on Alfred Hitchcock Presents at least twice, once with Joanna Moore (forgive me if I am misspelling it), who went on to marry Ryan O'Neal and was Tatum O'Neal's mom.

Steven Hill has been one of my favorite actors for years. This part was one of his best. Should have garnered at least an Oscar nomination for supporting actor. This movie should have grabbed a few other nominations too. I guess fifty years ago, the subject matter was hidden away in a closet.
