Cassavettes Cameo?

I've been watching ACIW since the 60's and think I just spotted an uncredited appearance mentioned elsewhere on the internet.

Burt is taking Judy on the adult male ward. A patient with his pants jacked-up really high and a hospital issued haircut approaches the camera and squawks.I've seen this shot many times before and I think its cassavettes doing a superb job. (And I worked in a mental hospital...) He's as convincing as Leonardo DiCaprio in Gilbert Grape if only for the 5 seconds on screen. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

i'm pretty sure the man who walks toward the camera isn't cassavetes. but just before this is a brief shot of a different man holding his fingers to his eyes that could be him from what i can make out.

I wondered if that slide thing that the kid looks at is narrated by Cassavetes. You know when it says: "This is a house. Look at the picture of the house."
Sounds like Cassavetes voice, but I'm not sure.

reply

I'm watching it right now, it's definitely him narrating.

If you look in the "full cast and crew" section, you will see John Cassavetes listed in an uncredited role.

"Qui conduisait la voiture?"

After comparing various photos of Cassavetes to the movie scene, I'd say it was him! He may have worn something behind his ears to prop them out a bit, but damn, he looked more real than the real patients!

reply

check the shot immediately before the one of the man walking to the camera. the man in that shot is hiding his eyes, but by the shape of his face, ears, hair-
that's definitely cassavetes!

reply

I'm thinking it could have been him in both shots.

reply

OP is wrong!..that is NOT Cassavettes..looks nothing like him.

reply

I don't know what you guys are thinking, it doesn't even look like him. It's a real patient imo.

reply

yeah, the guy closing his eyes could be him.
