Was that scene a bit creepy...

...or what?

I'm talking about the scene where Carrie Grant and Audrey Hepburn are on the cruise boat on the river, and suddenly the ship goes dark, then somebody starts shining a searchlight on the couples on the river bank.

I used to think that scene was rather amusing back when I was younger, but now, with the recent concerns about privacy and what not, that seemed a rather tacky, maybe even creepy, thing to do. It's like they turned the whole ship into a bunch of voyeurs.

Any opinions?

It is a rather peculiar scene. but I suppose the implication is that the boats do this as a regular thing, so the people on the bank I suppose know it is going to happen, and don't mind.

If it is any consolation, they don't do it (darken the ship and use a searchlight) anymore. Or at least they didn't do it last fall when I was on one of those boats. I wonder if they ever did or if it was just invented for Charade?

K was just there and walked along the Seine many evenings and never saw that done. It's not a very good place to make out, though, unless the smell of urine turns you on.
