Favourite black and white Carry on

This is my favourite black and white Carry on. It's refreshing to see the cast playing it for real, rather than the innuendo filled films that we've come to know and love. Acting honours go to Sid James and Hattie Jacques. It is a good role for Hattie because she is not being portrayed in the obvious fat lady stereotyped roles she became known for.

Infamy, Infamy! - They've all got it in for me!

I believe this was Hattie's personal favorite of the Carry On films, presumably for that reason :)

This is definitely my favorite B&W Carry On as well, along with Carry On Regardless :)

Also, Hattie wasn't fat like you see most women today. She still had a figure, her face wasn't bloated and her belly wasn't the most prominent feature of her body. Everything was proportionately larger.

I agree this is a good one. it has an interesting story, and it's the first carry On film to have a real plot, rather than just being a series of comic incidents. Only drawback is the lack of Kenneth Williams.

Definitely the best b&w Carry On, and one of the very best of them all. Sid and Hattie were just brilliant, and their relationship gave the film real substance. Fabulous script from Talbot Rothwell - very funny, and with a bit of kitchen sink drama thrown in.
