Great Film

Much criticism was heaped upon Otto Preminger for this movie but seen today it is a fine film with great performances by John Huston, Dorothy Gish, and Tom Tryon. Carol Lynley was also fine.

This was not the next film I was planning to rent, as I am trying to catch up with Carol Lynley films (she usually picked worthy projects) and it was behind another film of hers with "a very long wait." So IMHABO AB='and biased", Carol was more than fine. My favorite performance of hers is in another Preminger-directed film Bunny Lake is Missing, in which she truly holds her own against the police inspector played by Sir Laurence Olivier.

That said, I was truly intrigued by this film, its epic sweep, its many unforgettable performances, its memorable dialogue, and the issues it confronts. And truly suspenseful scenes made it difficult to stop watching. More film lovers ought to see it.
