Musicals you would like to see onscreen

I am curious to see what stage musicals people would like to see done, or redone, on screen. Please give your opinion at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059742/board/thread/116651474?d=116651474&p=1#116651474

I think they should make/remake musicals that have been largely forgotten or neglected entirely from Broadway.

Finian's Rainbow--I don't think this has even been revived on Broadway since its original run in the 40's. Could bring this to a new generation.

Pal Joey--Here is another largely forgotten musical. I must admit I haven't heard any songs from this and think it could use a new audience.

Brigadoon-I love this musical!

Anything Goes--I could be wrong but I don't think this has ever been made into a movie. It has had what seems like a dozen remakes on Broadway though.

Carnival-This should be remade, either screen or stage. I don't think it ever has either. They would probably have to change that small bit where the main guy slaps her heroine though(I never liked that bit and it probably definitey not fly today)

Carousel-This deserves another movie, I think.

You're wrong, as usual. Anything Goes is an old 1936 movie. Sometimes it's on TCM.

Now, being a mega HUGE Marx Brothers fan, I would like either The Cocoanuts or Animal Crackers back on Broadway...the way it was originally made before it was made into the movie.

Animal.Crackers revived in.London some years ago.

Miss Saigon, Les Mis, Wicked, Peter Pan the Musical, Young Frankenstein the Musical, CATS (With real felines), You're a Good Man Charlie Brown (With real people)

No Day But Today. Today 4 U. One Song Glory.
How we gonna pay last year's RENT?!

reply

I hated CATS (and I love felines). The idea of using real kitties is a good one though, but I'm not sure if they would cooperate.

Well, cats are trainable.

I've been wanting to see Jekyll + Hyde on the big screen for years.

Bye Bye Birdie needs a better version; the '63 film doesn't do it for me.

I really hate Les Mis but I'd pay to see a film version of it just to see how it's adapted.

Phantom of the Opera and Rent are my two favorite musicals but their films are not as great as they should have been. Phantom's casting was all over the place and Joel Schumacher often makes some very misguided directorial decisions. Rent's biggest issue for me doesn't even lie in the shuffling of the songs because that works for the film. Chris Columbus handles the show very clumsily. The overall tone is incredibly bleak and the stage show's black comedy aspects are completely jettisoned. Moral of the story, I'd like to see directors who actually know what they're doing adapt those two shows again.

Count each day as a gift; you never know when the wrapping paper's going to run out.

you are so wrong about Phantom and RENT. The movies were amazing!! Very well done. There was nothing clumsy about RENT. Nothing! And they are in works of Jekyll and Hyde being made for screen.

I love you, Kristen Stewart. :) You are so beautiful and talented. I would love to perform with you.
