Why Change Albert's Profession

Why did they make Albert just a song writer and not Birdie's manager? As the song writer, he'd have no reason to accompany Conrad to Ohio for a TV appearance. Once the song was bought, he'd pretty much be out of the picture and have no say in anything that happens.

While he has a vested interest in the song's success, wouldn't the studio recording be more important than the live rendition to him? While a successful performance might encourage sales, it seems Birdie's last single before a two year stint in the Army would have sold no matter what.

If he'd been the manager, then avoiding bad publicity as in the remake would be his reason for everything he does.
