Watch the trailer here

From Trailers From Hell. You can play with or without Joe Dante's commentary. I highly recommend both:

This looks like a real gem that's been relegated to the dustbin of history.

This is, of course, the trailer for the heavily cut American version, not released until 1965 and retitled A Boy Ten Feet Tall, which was cut by forty minutes...two whole reels...a third of the film...and ruining the narrative and removing key scenes in the process. Trust the Americans to go and muck it all up and ruin a good film. As it's now 50 years since I ran the original British trailer (for Sammy Going South), I can't remember now what the British trailer was like compared to the American one (except, of course, that the music would have been by Tristram Cary and not by Les Baxter). So I couldn't say the British trailer was better. A pity though that this copy of the American trailer has a few seconds missing at the end, as it makes the music end abruptly.
