That song...

If I had to listen to that obnoxious song the children were singing much longer I would gladly have surrendered myself to the birds...lol...

And join Dan on the bedroom floor.

I hate the song too, but I think it was chosen deliberately. It makes you tense and agitated, and that's a great set up for what's about to happen...

It is most definitely deliberate. There is no other music in the film but that bizarre song. Reminds me of the song in "Rosemary's Baby".

Hitch was an ace and doing this kind of thing to manipulate people.

I did a nifty little Call of Cthulhu (tabletop rpg) scenario a few years ago set in the early '20s in San Francisco, where I live and have loads of historical background. It involved some strange influence centered in the cities "Sunset District", which at the time was mostly 3-4 square miles of drifting sand. I found an orphanage existed on the southern edge of the area and decided the children were on a picnic when the scenario happens... So when my investigators ventured into the dunes in search of a clue I had provided, one of the things that occurred was they kept hearing this remote sound on the wind of childrens voices, singing THAT song. My sound mix was pretty good, I had variations that were more or less lost in the wind, and it was definitely the most creepy thing in the game. Naturally I got my clips of the song from this movie.
