So many of Davies's 1960s songs echo postwar Britain, Angry Young Man, etc.: "Dead End Street," "Shangri-La," "Get Back in Line," "Situation Vacant." Even "Waterloo Sunset" has a hint of Billy Liar in it.

I thought the same thing. There are definite similarities to Clockwork Orange. Alex and Billy speaking in first-person narrative and walking around with delusional fantasies along with the satirical humor.

This and the Lonliness of the long distance runner reminded me of ACWO. It's pretty interesting.
