Love this film as a historical piece

I know this is fiction, but everything just seemed so relatively innocent and upbeat in 1963, before the Kennedy assassination, vietnam, Watergate, race riots, etc.

Makes me wish I could've lived there/then. Or at least in this fictional world.

I was born in 68, so I have no memory of this era. Didn't really become aware until Ford was in office, and all that was past.

But it seems strange to me that I can remember things from Kindergarten, only 10 years after this movie came out. And the world had already changed so much.

After all, 10 years isn't very long. Having just attended my 30-year high-school reunion.

I guess young people of every generation/year are having a fairly fun, carefree time, at least from an adult perspective. With the movie versions of that fun always somewhat exaggerated.

But I still think I would've had a great time in the 50's/60's living in southern California, and surfing/partying on the beach.

I do remember 1963. Add in smoking, drunkenness, some drugs, sex, unintended pregnancy, fighting, and assholes and the movie would be a fairly accurate representation.
