Basis/Inspiration for WALL-E?

I don't remember Pixar crediting this film with WALL-E's inspiration, but this film shares some very similar parallels with WALL-E, once the automobiles start piling up. The two films obviously share the same viewpoint regarding rampant consumerism - even more of a problem today than in 1963.
