After the wedding in "With this Gown I Thee Wed," Cousin May is crying and wipes her nose with a handkerchief. She passes it on to Billie Jo, Bobbi Jo, and Floyd who all wipe their noses with it, and then Uncle Joe blows his nose into it. He pockets it briefly and then starts crying again and uses it to wipe his eyes. Talk about unsanitary, sheesh!

Well, I never liked that episode anyway. To emotional for my liking. I did like the 2 part honeymoon episode that followed, though
"With This Gown I Thee Wed" I thought was played way too seriously during the wedding scenes. Just don't like that particular episode. And this was season 5 when the show was beginning to tank anyhow.
You'd probably be bothered if your Mom or Grandmother wiped a spot off your face with a damp thumb, which had been wetted by licking.
At the time you wouldn't have known anything about sanitary!!!
That was common as a kid to get spot dabbed with the thumb. AND, my aunt would take out her hankie, dab it with her tongue a little bit, and wipe my face and I thought nothing of it!!!! And I survived!
But somehow passing that handkerchief around sounds worse.
