Uncle Joe Gets on My Nerves

I love this show but as I rewatch it now on DVD I find Uncle Joe gets on my nerves big time. Does anyone else feel the same?

Barack Obama IS DESTROYING AMERICA!!

Well, there's no doubt that Uncle Joe was the laziest character in television history, lol!

Its not so much the fact that he was lazy but he was so doggone annoying....always thinking he was right and everyone else was wrong. I wanted to reach into my television screen and bop him one sometimes....just like Kate! He was such a buffoon...but he was perfect for the role.

I very much agree about him being annoying. He was unlikeable to the point that he was not even funny. (IMHO.) One of the most annoying episodes was when he announced his retirement. Retirement from WHAT? Anytime there was work to be done, he disappeared, yet wanted to be the first name of "Carson-Elliot" enterprises. Andy they all lovingly humored him! This is entirely different from the way Andy Taylor and the rest of Mayberry humored Barney. Barney tried hard, and deserved respect. Uncle Joe? He was useless and worthless.

Now that I'm off my rant, I'll say this. Any actor/actress who can make the audience dislike, hate, loathe them, is a total genius! LOL! What a GREAT talent Edgar Buchanan was!

In all fairness, Uncle Joe is a senior citizen (Not sure what he did in his younger days, all we know is he traveled a lot), and despite all the times he's shown sleeping, was often busy trying to improve business at the hotel in his "general manager" capacity.

He also saved the hotel with his found money in season three without taking credit.

My parents were fans, I think they named me after Uncle Joe. They still never miss an opportunity to point out when I'm movin' kind of slow.

yeah @larkpraise - I have to say that I concur totally... truly an annoying character and unfortunately most 60's-70's sitcoms are loaded with annoying characters - I stopped DVRing PJ because of him. I only kept watching to catch a look at the luscious Lori "Bobbie Jo" Saunders - but even her amazing hotness couldn't numb the pain from watching Uncle Joe..

Have never liked him. He's not funny and he's hardly annoying because he's lazy, he's just annoying to hear him speak and say things. Edgar Buchanan was dreadful.

Check out a movie called City Without Men, about wives of incarcerated prisoners.

Buchanan plays an alcoholic lawyer who pleads the fella's case, then when all is said and one, he asks for a drink and everyone laughs.

I'm like, does this man have any good performances?

But I've never liked Uncle Joe and see no reason for him to be there. Benaderet could have worked just as well with the three daughters.

I don't care for the guys on the train either.

I do like Sam Drucker and liked Homer Bedlow.

Kate needed some women to interact with.
