Patty or Cathy?

Okay, I'm doing a survey! Which cousin do viewers prefer or identify more with...Patty or Cathy?

Personally, I was kind of shy and bookish back in my teenage years when I used to watch this show, so identified more with Cathy. However, I have a feeling that Patty is going to win this popularity contest!

Definitely Cathy. But I loved Patty, too!

Cathy, and I loved that they spelled it with a "C" instead of the more popular "K".

reply

I liked both, but have to admit that I thought Patty was more realistic as an early 60's teenager.

Oddly enough, Patty Duke states in her biography that although she played a typical teenager, she really was completely clueless about what the average teen was like. She was worked to death from early childhood, had no relations with other teens and had to be taught to dance and be "typical" for the show and was embarrassed about it...especially when other young people came on the show. She had a sad life growing up.... if anyone I think she identified with the Cathy role more...

reply

I liked Cathy more, because she was so proper and polite. But Patty really knew how to dance.

I liked Patty because she seemed more promiscuous.

No ****, Sherlock. She lost control over a hot dog, for crying out loud! A HOT DOG!

So not only are these two girls just pure genetic aberrations that would have generated TONS of media attention even back in 1963 (because identical cousins just really aren't possible), but Patty likes to rock and roll and she gives it up over a HOT DOG? Cool your jets there, babe! Geez, how loose was she that she lost control over a HOT DOG? Clearly the rapid onset of several STDs would diminish the identical traits in them, and very soon. No wonder there wasn't a fourth season. Probably due to a rapidly developing case of syphilis. What a crazy pair!

Cathy was the more refined character and Patty Lane was brassy. Cathy for me.

What I wonder about is that since Patty got more screen time and situations that centered around her, did it make Cathy jealous? Was there friction on the set?

reply

I am a reserved person as well, but I loved Patty and sort of dislike Cathy. That is a shock because it's the same actress. I guess that shows what a good actress she is. I guess it might be the accent that bothered me. Patty was so perky and likable and always getting into trouble. She is one of my favoirte characters from the 60's.

Cathy

Cathy is a foxxxxx

Prefer Patty, ID with Cathy.

Does that make sense?

They were both very likable. Too bad most "popular" girls aren't that nice.

Cathy all the way. My biggest complaint about this show is that every episode seems to focus on Patty and Cathy is treated as little more than a prop. Cathy has the intelligence and culture. And boy, does she make a great jam!
